About the role
Join our inclusive and dynamic Fixed Plant Maintenance Planning & Engineering (MP&E) function here at Rio Tinto, where you will lead, connect, direct, and support the wider MP&E and Site Operational teams. In this exciting role, you will oversee a diverse portfolio of engineering functions, specifically process engineering, electrical and controls systems, and mine water management. Your focus will be leading sustainable improvements in all aspects associated with people, process, and performance in line with short to medium term objectives.
As the MP&E Fixed Plant Engineering Superintendent (Regional), you will be reporting to the MP&E Manager and you will be responsible for:
Adhere to all Rio Tinto standards, policies and protocols
Lead, coach, & develop a diverse engineering team
Define staffing and development needs of MP&E
Define and input Quarterly Forecast Planning (QFP) parameters for site
Collaborate closely with other functions and stakeholders in the performance of duties
Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, evaluating and implementing improvement opportunities utilising a range of Rio Tinto best practices
Asset Management and Strategic Asset Management Improvement Plans are maintained
Support Risk management including Risk and Assurance Forum (RaAF), Asset Integrity Assessment (AIA), and Critical Risk Assessment (CRA)
Manage FXP / HME Maintenance Engineering activities to maximise productivity while optimising cost and environmental impact
Support the engineering team to provide technical support and engineering to maintenance teams for a variety of fixed plant assets, including root cause, equipment failure and loss analysis
Ensure integrity and quality of the mine plans are maintained through adequate reviewing process of mine plan outputs prior final submission
Conform and deploy Asset Management standards
Support in delivering Defect Elimination activities and ensure the cadence are maintained
Advocate for optimised plant production by providing feedback to on-site Mine Technical Services regarding feed conformance to plan and identifying suitable changes where required
Establish targeted KPI reports for operational practices relating to subject assets
Identify, communicate and manage Process Philosophy / Functional Description
What you’ll bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
Strong background in safety and people leadership roles
Demonstrate capability in coaching, leading change and effective decision making
Good time & team performance management is critical
Collaboratively enable effectiveness to safely optimise productivity, build organisational excellence, capability and improvement
Strong background in Process Engineering (or other related engineering disciplines)
Demonstrate understanding Financial Management
Preference is to have reasonable systems knowledge: e.g SAP, Prometheus, Enablon, etc.
Degree in process engineering (desired) or equivalent engineering (i.e. electrical/mechanical)
Current ‘C’ Class Driver's License (Manual)

Where you’ll be working
This role is being offered on a 5/2 -4/3 roster (9-day fortnight), Residential in Tom Price, or FIFO from Perth to Tom Price.
Tom Price is located in the central Pilbara, west of Karijini National Park and is our original Pilbara mine, currently employing residential and fly in fly out employees. It is known as one of the most attractive towns in the Pilbara with a high school, two primary schools a hospital and a high standard of recreational facilities.
