Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) has a focus on developing and maintaining relationships with neighbouring communities and interacting regularly with them regarding mining impacts.  This role provides a key interface between the community, mine operations and internal environment as well as community personnel.

Owned and Operated by Yancoal Australia, Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is one of the largest open pit operations in the area. Located 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, MTW relies on both draglines and load haul systems as the current and preferred mining method. Our site operates continuously 24 hours a day, seven days a week and has a long and proud history, employing approximately 1350 people from local and surrounding communities, who are our most valuable asset. 

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Mining Superintendent - MEM, this role is responsible for proactively managing mining operations through monitoring and visual inspections in neighbouring communities and on the mine site whilst working the 4 panel (2/3) roster rotating between day and night shift. As part of the MTW team you will be in regular contact with mine operations personnel to better understand and modify operations as required. This role is of critical importance to both our near neighbours and the site. Other key responsibilities include: •    Compilation and reporting of operational monitoring, community and environmental data for communication with internal and external stakeholders; •    Assist in maintenance and improvement of community and environmental management systems; and •    Community and environmental awareness training to mine personnel.  

Skills and Experience

To be successful in the role you will also display the following skills and attributes: •    Tertiary qualification in environmental or social science (or similar) and/or willing to obtain; •    A strong customer focus to deal with both internal and external stakeholders; •    Ability to effectively analyse technical information and communicate to various audiences; •    An Australian manual driver’s license; •    A broad level understanding of open cut mining practice; •    Ability to work shift work (night shift and weekends); and •    Previous experience in environmental monitoring particularly noise monitoring is desirable.
