About the role
We are looking for a Network Control Systems Engineer to analyse, standardise, provide operational readiness and ongoing optimisation of the IP Networks underpinning process control systems. This role will work in close consultation with Engineers in other Rio Tinto divisions and provide expert technical advice for operational issues.
This role is a great opportunity for an IP Network subject matter expert (SME) to optimise current and emerging technology and deliver a reliable service to the business safely while working in partnership with global vendors.
Reporting to the Networks Platform Lead, and working in an exciting and collaborative environment within the Global IS&T Technology Platforms team, you will:
- Optimise control system IP networks by proposing and reviewing solutions for existing and new services and ensuring its safe delivery into a live environment
- Provide capacity planning and ensure physical assets can deliver the agreed service level targets in a cost effective and timely manner
- Configure, standardise, and implement cybersecurity compensating controls for control system IP networking infrastructure hosting assets such as PLC Controllers, DCS systems, MES, SCADA, etc.
- Participate in testing, planning, and controlling the releases of new configuration or changes to live control system IP networks to ensure minimal disruption to production operations during these planned activities.
- Development and ongoing updates to IP Networking and Communication standards, documentation and knowledge management to ensure the IP networks continue to be fit for purpose
- Providing input into IS&T IP Network Strategy and planning processes, collaborating with Architecture and Operations teams to ensure best practices are used whilst meeting business requirements
- Review of high-level and low-level designs fulfilling a Quality Assurance and Governance role
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Previous experience with Process Control Networks in either Greenfield or Brownfield environment
- Experience in support and guidance of Industrial Control Networks including Process Control IP Networks, Power and Utilities IP Networks, Train Control IP Networks, Mining Systems and automation IP Networks
- Strong knowledge of IP Transport/transmission – IP Routing and switching, QoS, Modbus, transmission planning and optimisation
- Experience with quality assurance and governance type role
- Sound knowledge of main equipment vendors such as Cisco, RuggedCom, Hirschmann and Schneider
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation and presentation skills with demonstrated ability to explain your thinking and influence decision making
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Bachelor’s degree qualification (Telecommunications/Engineering, IT/Data Networks)
- Mining, oil and gas or manufacturing experience preferred
