The Gwalia Gold Mine is located three kilometres south of the town of Leonora, Western Australia, and has been a flagship asset for our client St Barbara for the past 15 years. Macmahon is proud to be able to deliver a whole of mine service including mine development, ground support, production drilling and blasting, loading and trucking, shotcreting and paste fill reticulation from May 2021. 
 

The Gwalia mine is the cornerstone of Leonora operations and has strong margins supported by good grades and a focus on costs and returns. The site has a track record of continuous improvement, with a recently upgraded mine ventilation system, and a previous significant upgrade of the accommodation village that incorporated a number of energy efficient and environmentally friendly initiatives.
 
The Macmahon Underground team are seeking Nippers to join the Gwalia team on a 2 weeks on 2 weeks off dayshift and night shift roster FIFO out of Perth. 
 

Position Details: 

Ensure all necessary consumables are provided as and when required so the drill blast cycle runs in a smooth and systematic fashion;
Minimisation of jumbo down time through regular servicing and minor preventative maintenance;
Attainment of necessary skills to assist jumbo operator as required;
Assists with face preparation for drilling;
Assist jumbo operator who drills holes for the installation of rocks, bolts and mesh;
Collect and deliver ground support consumables;
Assist with installation of ground support;
Collect and deliver minor maintenance consumables and lubricants;
Conduct minor preventative and remedial maintenance;
Install lifter tube to lifters;
Remove all waste from work areas;
Install mine services and ventilation as required; and
Record all shift report data correctly and on time (i.e. delays, locations, directions etc.)

Essential Requirements: 

Previous Experience working underground; 
Current Manual Drivers Licence;
Self motivated and energetic;
Sound planning and organisational skills; and
Ability to pass a National Police Clearance and Pre employment medical;
