About the role

We are looking for a Network Protection & Sequencing Coordinator to join the Rail Maintenance Excellence team at our 7 Mile site, based in Dampier.

This role presents a fantastic opportunity to provide expertise and build the foundations of successful track maintenance obstruction management. You will play a key role in the development of agreed sequencing and timings of work groups for track obstructions across Rio Tinto Rail Network.

Whilst reporting to the Superintendent Network Protection, this position will work closely with the Network Protection Team, TSR Specialist, RTIO Contractor Management Teams, Contract Partner stakeholders, Obstruction Coordinators, Scheduling and Rail Logistics and Optimisation teams.

Operating a family and lifestyle friendly 8 days on, 6 days off roster, FIFO from Perth or residential in Karratha, you will be responsible for, but not limited to :

  • Providing technical expertise in obstruction management that includes safe working and track maintenance
  • Driving obstruction performance, optimisation and improvement in the T minus 4 weeks to T plus 1 week timeframes
  • Sequence complex works to ensure obstructions are executable and drive productivity
  • Liaise with the Integration Co-ordinator to build detailed time, distance and sequencing charts for track obstructions
  • Review improvement opportunities of obstructions through detailed analysis post execution
  • Assist in driving positive step change for the break in works governance across Rail Maintenance
  • High level of SAP, HOSDI and NETPASS understanding or ability to learn
  • Provide coaching to team on Railway Operating Rules, Authorities and track maintenance codes of practice
  • Deviation Management of obstruction sequencing after cut-off date if approved
  • Support Network Protection team onsite for complex track obstructions

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A strong safety mindset
  • Minimum M3 Safeworking Qualification
  • Minimum Cert II in Track Infrastructure or relevant experience
  • Minimum 5 years Network Protection (Safeworking Experience)
  • Minimum 5 years Track Maintenance execution experience
  • Excellent engagement style to build positive relationships with key stakeholders
  • Self-manage workload and job complexities
  • Work well in a team environment and influence people in a positive manner
  • Read and interpret track schematics
  • Fluent in HOSDI and NetPASS applications or ability to learn
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of work management fundamentals
  • Knowledge of Rail Operations and Train Running strategies
  • Valid C Class Driver’s License

Where you’ll be working

You will be based in the heart of coastal town Karratha and operating out of the close by town of Dampier. Our port facilities consist of four shipping terminals located on the Pilbara coast at Dampier and Cape Lambert which form an essential part of our logistics process. Each terminal has facilities for train unloading, iron ore stockpiling, product blending and ship loading.
