About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Officer – Occupational Hygiene to join our HSE team at Rio Tinto Boyne operations based in Gladstone. Working Monday to Friday or the option to do a 9-day fortnight.
Being a part of the provision and coordination of occupational hygiene support will put you at the forefront of mining technology with the once in a lifetime opportunity to work with new equipment and processes, while championing occupational hygiene and supporting exposure reduction projects.

Working in a challenging and exciting environment, key activities will include:
- Execution of the annual occupational hygiene monitoring program with a key focus on hazards such as dust, fume and noise. Including the operation of equipment such as air sampling pumps, noise dosimeters and gas detectors.
- Management of data generated through occupational hygiene monitoring, including data entry via Cority software and feedback of results to key stakeholders.
- Managing calibration, servicing, and repairs of equipment and instrumentation.
- Preparation and update of site metrics related to occupational hygiene.
- As required, undertaking role related projects, focused on the identification and assessment of occupational hygiene hazards.
- Champion health hazard management through education and communication.
- Collaborate with site stakeholders to support risk reduction initiatives.
- Review and update occupational hygiene processes and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and Rio Tinto requirements.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Motivated self-starter with a strong desire to build a career in occupational hygiene.
- Keen interest in developing technical skills and expanding knowledge in occupational health and hygiene.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly in following monitoring procedures and ensuring accurate data entry and record-keeping.
- The ability to follow technical instructions and standard operating procedures with consistency and care.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Competent in using Microsoft Office and/or data management systems.
- Completed the Basic Principles of Occupational Hygiene course, or a willingness to complete the training within 12 months of appointment

Where you’ll be working
Boyne Smelters Limited is Australia’s second largest aluminium smelter with a 1,000-person strong workforce. Located approximately 20km south east of Gladstone at Boyne Island on the Central Queensland coast, BSL produces around 500,000 tonnes of aluminium per annum.
Activities at BSL include manufacturing carbon anodes in the carbon plant, aluminium production (smelting) in reduction lines, and casting of molten material into aluminium products ready to ship. The smelter is connected via a conveyor belt to the Queensland Alumina Limited refinery for the supply of alumina.
