We are looking for an Occupational Hygiene Technician to support the Health, Safety and Environment managers to implement and co-ordinate health practices across region of accountability.

Working in a challenging and exciting environment, you will be assisting the Site Occupational Hygiene team performing their day-to-day activities:
- Conducting Occupational Hygiene Surveys to identify and confirm exposure risks and prepare associated reports
- Routine and targeted monitoring
- Educating, communicating and engaging with Rio Tinto HSE groups, site leaders and operational personnel
- Ensuring occupational hygiene documentation is current and accurate
- Supporting the administration of programs such as ChemAlert or Cority
- Managing site equipment and monitors
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Genuine interest in understanding and improving workers health
- Scientific education background
- Completed the Basic Principle of Occupational Hygiene - desirable
- Sound understanding of Microsoft Office Packages
- An understanding of legislative requirements relating to health surveillance and occupational hygiene
- Membership of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH) - desirable

Where you’ll be workingLocated in Central Queensland, approximately 10km north-west of Gladstone, Yarwun alumina refinery commenced operations in 2004. Processing bauxite from our mines in Weipa and Gove, Yarwun produces more than three million tonnes of smelter grade alumina annually.
As one of the largest industries in the Gladstone region, Yarwun employs over 700 people and has a large contractor workforce.
With a focus on safely improving our process every day, the team at Yarwun challenge themselves to use existing and emerging technology to support our 24 hour operation.
