About the Role
We are currently on the look-out for motivated, experienced, and highly capable Emergency Services Officers (ESOs) to join the BHP Emergency services team at our Mining Operations. This is a permanent position, working an 8:6/7:7 day and night shift roster, in a residential or FIFO role. we encourage applications from women, gender-diverse, and Indigenous people to join our team.
Reporting to the Security and Emergency Management Supervisor, you will be required to:
- Respond to mine site emergencies including, but not limited to, those involving fire, hazardous materials, vehicle interaction, confined space, working at heights, unauthorised site access, and medical emergencies.
- Provide the highest possible standard of pre-hospital emergency care, adhering to treatment procedures, and accurately complete associated documentation.
- Plan, deliver, and participate in training sessions and scenario-based activities for peer ESOs, volunteer FRT members, and other staff.
- Inspect and maintain operational emergency response equipment.
- Complete daily front of house duties including drug and alcohol testing.
- Commit to ongoing development of skills and qualifications to maintain competencies and clinical scope of practice.
We support flexible work at BHP and encourage ongoing development. This role, and associated rosters and leave entitlements, provide opportunity for ESOs to complete further study in related fields (such as Paramedicine, Nursing, or Emergency Management) whilst also working in our team.
BHP ESOs also have access to further training and development programs through external and internal facilitated training courses.
About You

You will also have:
- Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue or equivalent / higher (Essential)
- A minimum of one year experience in a mining / emergency rescue environment (Essential)
- Certificate IV in Health Care or equivalent / higher (Essential)
- Minimum of C class driver’s license (manual / HR preferable but not essential)
- Previous experience in a similar role - experience working or volunteering with fire services, ambulance services, defence forces, or other emergency services will also be advantageous,
Location With this role on an 8:6/7:7 roster, you have the choice of either being residentially based in Newman or fly-in fly-out from Perth to Newman, Newman Operations West is more than five kilometres long and nearly 1.5 kilometres wide, making it the biggest single-pit open-cut iron ore mine in the world. Newman Operations East is made up of several deposits and contributes to the overall ore production of the Newman Joint Venture hub. FIFO personnel will be provided accommodation and meals in a BHP operated village within close proximity to town, as well as airfares from Perth to site and return. If you would prefer the residential option in Newman, you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.
