  • Supportive team culture with a focus on inclusion, safety, and work life balance

  • Take the next steps in your career with a company that is committed to your growth and development

  • This role is offered on an 8 days on, 6 off FIFO Roster, flying out from either Perth, Busselton, Geraldton or Albany to site

About the role

We are looking for an Officer Environmental Monitoring to join our HSEC team at Greater Nammuldi, on a FIFO Roster. In this role you’ll work closely with the site environmental advisors and site operational teams to safely carry out environmental monitoring activities, in accordance with asset and regulatory approval requirements. You will be part of a supportive, collaborative team; however, a significant portion of this role is independent fieldwork and self‑managed scheduling, requiring strong organisational skills, proactive planning and confidence working alone in remote settings.

You’ll thrive here if you enjoy problem‑solving, working outdoors, and managing detailed monitoring programs from planning through to data delivery. You’ll also help to drive a culture of safety, performance and continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to do things better and putting new ideas into action.

Reporting to the Manager Health, Safety, Environment, Community (HSEC), the role will require you to:

  • Manage and execute a comprehensive environmental monitoring schedule to achieve compliance with environmental licences and approvals

  • Maintain high‑quality environmental datasets, ensuring information is accurate, complete, stored correctly and ready for reporting

  • Maintain and calibrate environment fieldwork equipment and assets

  • Complete monthly monitoring metrics and highlight non‑conformances or emerging issues

  • QA/QC and compliance reviews of data and communication to Environment Advisors

  • Manage and support environmental survey work conducted by contractors onsite (e.g. Bat, Aquatic fauna and riparian vegetation monitoring). This includes scoping, mobilisation, field work supervision and close out.

  • Raise monitoring exceedances and support environment incident investigations

  • Build strong, positive relationships with operational and functional teams

What you’ll bring

  • Formal qualification or competency in Environmental or Marine Sciences (or a related transferable discipline)

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a high-volume monitoring schedule, work independently and maintain attention to detail

  • Demonstrated experience in environmental sampling and monitoring programs

  • Strong data management skills, including handling large datasets and ensuring data quality

  • A proactive, diligent approach to fieldwork, safety and task execution

  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues confidently and safely

  • Experience working remotely or in field‑based roles

What we offer

  • Be recognised for your contribution, your thinking and your hard work, and go home knowing you’ve helped the world progress.

  • A work environment where safety is always the number one priority

  • A permanent position working directly for Rio Tinto

  • A competitive base salary reflective of your skills and experience with annual incentive bonus

  • Comprehensive medical benefits including subsidised private health insurance for employees and immediate family

  • Attractive share ownership plan

  • Company provided insurance cover

  • Extensive salary sacrifice & salary packaging options

  • Career development & education assistance to further your technical or leadership ambitions

  • Ongoing access to family-friendly health and medical wellbeing support

  • Leave for all of life’s reasons (vacation/annual, paid parental, sick leave, cultural leave)

  • To better suit different family needs, our paid parental leave approach gives all parents the option to take 18 weeks of paid leave after a new child arrives – at a time that suits them

  • Exclusive employee discounts including hotel stays, banking, accommodation, cars, retail and more
