Our Telfer operation in Australia is now recruiting for the position of Officer- Social Performance

Located in the Great Sandy Desert in East Pilbara, Western Australia, Telfer is a fly in out fly out operation from Perth which recognizes the importance of work-life balance.  Our comfortable, well furnished rooms include Foxtel, and our site offers quality food with healthy options, medical care, sports and recreation activities. Families are welcomed several times a year to open days to support our community feel at Telfer. 

The Role

Reporting into the Superintendent of Social Performance we are seeking an Officer- Social Performance to assist with the delivery of the Telfer’s Martu Community Engagement Program. The roster for this position will be FIFO 8/6 from Perth flying on a Friday.

The Social Performance team plays an instrumental role in actively working with external agencies, communities and other stakeholders to recruit indigenous candidates and to support the community employment and training programs.

Other Accountabilities include:

  • Ensure effective delivery of the Newcrest’s Indigenous Training and Employment Program.
  • Assist with the delivery of the Martu Traineeship program
  • Provide support to Indigenous employees and trainees onsite as required
  • Continue to build and manage internal relationships to enhance employment and training opportunities onsite
  • Effective delivery of various Community Projects within local Martu communities and nearby towns
  • Assist with the implementation of Newcrest’s Indigenous Land Use Agreement with Martu
  • Promoting Indigenous employment at Newcrest in accordance with Newcrest's Indigenous agreements
  • Providing support for Telfer Community Relations’ special events.

To succeed in this role, you will be an organised and a culturally sensitive professional with proven experience of working within the Social Performance space highly desirable. As an effective communicator, you will look to build and manage internal relationships to enhance training, employment and business development opportunities at Telfer .

In addition to the above key skills, you will also ideally have:

  • Previous experience working with indigenous individuals and communities
  • Extensive experience in Social Performance and / or Cultural Heritage Management in a similar role; supporting delivery of mining exploration / development projects (or operations)
  • Experience managing complex social performance plans and projects, highly organised and good understanding of managing logistics to deliver Indigenous cultural heritage requirements
  • Proven ability to build positive relationships across a range of stakeholder groups with experience in negotiation, conflict management and resolution
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills, Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Familiar with document management systems (CDMS, Aconex or similar
  • Manual driver’s license - essential
