The Deflector Mine is an underground, shallow, narrow-vein Gold and Copper mine that commenced production in May 2016. With record Gold production and strong Exploration drilling results immediately to the south and south-west of the existing resource, Deflector continues to have a bright future ahead.
THE ROLE:
As the OHS Advisor, you will play a key part in the Deflector safety team, providing guidance on safe work practices and emergency procedures, conducting risk assessments, audits and investigations. Supported by the Deflector Safety team and reporting to the OHST Manager, this autonomous role will see you take ownership of delivering the safety management plan and drive exceptionally high safety awareness and performance.
Key responsibilities of this role will include:
- Assist in the development and implementation of the Mine Safety Management System
- Support the site team in development, implementation and maintenance of OHS Policies, Management Plans and Procedures
- Drive continuous improvement and best practice in safety performance through ongoing engagement with site leaders
- Assist the operation in its transition to the new WHS legislation
- Lead or facilitate workplace inspections and incident investigations
- Undertake risk assessments of work tasks and site conditions, including high risk tasks and shutdown activities
- Conduct OHS training to improve awareness and adherence to procedures
- Maintain integrity of data in the incident management database (INX) and conduct analysis to identify trends
- Compile reports on safety statistics and OHS compliance, including statutory reports for DMIRS

You have the following qualifications and experience:
- Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety
- ICAM Investigation training or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience in an operational resources environment
- Excellent understanding of OHS management systems; INX, Chess, MyOsh or similar
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills
- The desire for continuous improvement and to share knowledge
- Sound understanding of Western Australian Mines Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations and relevant state and national OSH legislation
- OHS Lead Auditor (desirable)
- Current manual drivers licence
- Cert IV Training and Assessing would be advantageous
You will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced and diverse role, on a FIFO 8:6 roster from Perth, or DIDO from Geraldton/surrounding areas. You will be a valued part of this small team, coupled with the stability of an established, stable and financially secure company.
