Water Management Operational Hydrogeologist
Work Location: Cloudbreak - Fortescue’s Cloudbreak mine is located on the traditional lands of the Palyku and Nyiyaparli peoples.
Roster: 4D/3R, 8D/6R FIFO ex. Perth
Reporting to the Senior Water Management Engineer – The central function to this position is the ongoing development, implementation, and review of dewatering plans to align with monthly operational mining plans. The position requires excellent communication, time management and technical skills to ensure robust hydrogeological assessments are completed on time and are effectively communicated to the business.
Working as the lead hydrogeologist at one of the largest dewatering operations in the Southern Hemisphere, this role will provide the suitable candidate with the autonomy to make a significant impact to our operations and offers professional development in understanding mining operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop monthly dewatering and water supply operational plans and monitoring of dewatering progress to eliminate risks of unexpected water encounters for mining or lack of water supply to Ore Processing Facility (OPF)
- Undertake base of pit sump planning and design with stakeholders
- Contribute to development and implementation of work programs (ongoing) and systems to build and align hydrogeological knowledge, conceptual models and numerical models for Chichester operations and address critical risks
- Contribute to mine planning with respect to mine dewatering and aquifer depressurisation
- Undertaking of new trial to improve dewatering outcomes and reduce costs
- Maintain a collaborative relationship with other business units and external parties, contribute to knowledge building and awareness, influence decision making regarding water management
Skills, qualifications, and experience required:
- A degree or an equivalent tertiary qualification in Engineering Geology, Hydrogeology or Geosciences, MSc in Hydrogeology preferred
- Relevant applied experience in Hydrogeology
- Experience in mine water management and water bore drilling within an open pit mining environment
- Knowledge of hydrogeological modelling, monitoring analysis, interpretation, and reporting
- Competent use of hydrogeological software packages
- Proficiency with database and reporting tools such as SQL Server Reporting Services and Tableau will be highly regarded
