About the Role

The Operations Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safe preparation and execution of drilling activities conducted by our contract partners.  Tasks must be performed safely and sustainably in compliance with workplace procedures and aligned with BHP’s Code of Conduct.  The Operations Specialist will actively engage all required stakeholders and apply experience and initiative to safely coordinate works, to meet monthly and annual KPI targets.

Reporting to the Superintendent Geoscience Exploration and Strategy, your key accountabilities will include:

  • Ensuring safe systems of work are in place and effective for Geoscience surface drilling activities
  • Leading quality Field Leadership observations, risk assessments, work management and quality Event investigations
  • Accountable for all frontline operational work delivery from 0-90 days
  • Shift to Shift delivery of operations activities including:

Diamond drilling

Earthworks

Connecting and sustaining water supply to drilling operations

Geophysical, heritage, and environment surveys

About You

The successful candidate, will ideally possess the following:

  • Leading by example; hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in “Safety Leadership”
  • Ability to lead a team of frontline workers to deliver high quality, relevant outcomes
  • Previous experience in field based supervisor role managing multidisciplinary field based teams over a wide geographical coverage
  • Excellent contractor management skills and a functional understanding of exploration contracts
  • Exploration or mining experience preferably with exposure to deep directional diamond and reverse circulation drilling
