ABOUT GEMCO

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a permanent position being offered as residential on a full-time ongoing basis. You will work a 4:3 roster, with a dedicated and fixed day off every week.

As the Operator Mentor Carpenter / Builder, you will mentor and guide the Operations Team members and assist the Supervisor to coordinate, schedule and execute varied operations that include carpentry/building based construction tasks.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Execution of tasks which may include (but not limited to) small machinery tasks, earthworks, waste management, civil works, maintenance, fabrication, and installation
• Actively contribute to the delivery of South32’s Indigenous participation/employment objectives and other company strategies
• Assist the Operation Services Supervisor to plan, resource and mentor team projects and services
• Play a key role in Indigenous participation/employment whilst enabling the team’s employees to reach their full potential

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Proven experience as an apprentice supervisor
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Working alongside Indigenous employees to achieve training and development outcomes and ensure employees remain engaged in day-to-day activities

Qualifications for this position are:

• Minimum Cert III in Carpentry/Builder Trade qualification
• NT Construction Card (white card)
• Heavy Rigid (HR) Truck Licence (or ability to obtain)
