Operator Senior Shotfirer

Location:

This role is based at the Boddington Bauxite Mine located a short drive from the community of Boddington (10 minutes), Pinjarra (50 minutes) and the City of Mandurah (1 hour).

Surrounded by magnificent jarrah forests, pristine beaches and world-famous wineries, you will live and work in one of the most beautiful regions of Western Australia and still be home each night.

Accountabilities:

• Control and monitor quality parameters of blasting activities.
• Carry out the requirements of the appointed shot-firer
• Ensure that explosives are used in accordance with safe operating practices and site procedures
• Execute the blasting activities according to the schedule, blast plan and supervisor instructions.
• Work with all required explosive products and associated tools and equipment, as defined by the operations standards and operating procedures
• Assist with training of Blast Operators and upskilling of developing Shotfirers.
• Assist to develop and enhance work practices and procedures
• Understand the purpose and functionality of critical controls relevant to work tasks of the production execution sub function and work to the prescribed performance standards and controls
• Review and update plans and equipment history and communicate status to the appropriate parties
• Maintain accurate records as required to control the use of explosives
• Provide day-to-day leadership to work crew and peers, along with coaching and mentoring
• Assist to develop and enhance work practices and procedures
• Continuously demonstrate South32’s value’s

Desires Skills and Experience:

• Demonstrates commitment to safe work practices and procedures 
• Understands and drives productivity without compromising safety
• Assists with training and supervision as required
• 2 years minimum experience as an operator shotfirer
• Demonstrated oral and written English language proficiency
• Hold a western Australian Shot firers license for surface operation
• Hold a current C class manual driver’s license 
• Have been awarded all Primary, Secondary knowledge qualifications where applicable
• Be eligible to obtain a Dangerous Goods Security Card
