Smelting & Refining, – Operations

Mount Isa Mines are currently advertising for Operators to join our Mount Isa operations.  These are excellent opportunities to commence a career within the mining industry or to further your experience while developing your technical skills and industry knowledge.  


The successful applicants will be someone that is hands on and keen to develop and learn the skills found working in Smelting and Refining - Lead Smelter. These positions are residentially based in Mount Isa, and are eligible for a $5,000 sign on bonus.


Lead Smelter - Operators
The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Maintain plant hygiene and hosing around the plant
• Carrying out plant checks and cleaning up spills
• Supply tools and equipment to plant areas
• Use of crow bars, hammers and jackhammers
• Running in fluxes and other materials
• Progressing through to other more challenging tasks within a short timeframe
• Working closely with operations, tradespeople and the supervisor to ensure that set targets are met and that the operation runs efficiently.
• Mobile equipment operation as required
• Identify and escalate any safety concerns and lead by example        

• Self-motivated and flexible with a high standard of work
• A pro-active approach to safety and continuous improvement
• Sound communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively within a small team
• A current Australian manual driver’s license
• Mobile equipment tickets – would be an advantage
• Previous industrial experience would be highly regarded
