We are looking for a Paralegal – Intellectual Property who will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Rio Tinto Intellectual Property Legal team. This role will see you reporting to our senior IP Paralegal and working with the broader IP Legal team. You will provide integral support and coordinate formality management for Rio Tinto’s IP portfolio, including but not limited to;

  • Updating of patent records in an IP management database and management of procedural deadlines for the IP portfolio
  • Administrative support to the intellectual property team in the creation, management and updating of active IP non-patent matters (trademarks, trade secrets, inventor information, invention records, patent watches, patent searches, general files, agreements/contracts) in the IP management database
  • Management of the group mailbox
  • Management of contracts, the drafting and execution of Deeds and coordination of the execution of national documents required at local patent offices to maintain IP assets as well as IP service provider engagement letters
  • IP portfolio annuity management
  • Reporting function internally to the intellectual property team and externally to project teams; Including preparation of reports on IP departmental activities

What you’ll bring

  • Excellent written skills.
  • Advanced computer skills with high competence in the Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments with appropriate prioritization
  • procedures, including in relation to convention, prosecution and PCT deadlines, payment of annuities, extensions of time, procedures around power of attorney forms and patent assignment forms
  • Experience with data entry into IP management databases required, FIP package is desirable
