About the role
Reporting to the Manager Pastoral Stations and working in a challenging and diverse role on our Pilbara Cattle Station which is located an hour away from both Paraburdoo and Tom Price, neighbouring the iconic Karijini National Park and is within driving distance of Milstream National Park, Ningaloo Reef and the Dampier Archipelago, you will be:
- Overseeing the coordination of running the Pastoral property in line with Rio Tinto standards and in consultation with the Pastoral Management team
- A frontline leader ensuring staff are working consistently with Rio Tinto standards and managing contractors on site
- Ensuring staff are checking and maintaining water points and making sure that the tanks are suitable for livestock accessing enough water
- Demonstrating a strong focus on health and safety, ensuring all aspects are carried out safely and efficiently
- Responsible for general maintenance and cleanliness of all property infrastructure including fencing
- Mustering livestock for marking and sales in accordance with the mustering schedule and following animal husbandry procedures
- Keeping and providing accurate records of stock movements, draft sheets, animal husbandry, fuel & oil use purchases and daily rainfall
- Responsible for stock yard maintenance for the safe handling of livestock
- Interested in Research & Development with the ability to assist in R&D projects
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Management experience in the Pastoral Beef industry
- Demonstrated sound knowledge of all aspects in Cattle Animal Husbandry including mustering & processing
- The ability to teach and train stockpersons in horsemanship and cattle handling skills in a safe manner.
- Strong communication skills combined with the ability to keep and maintain records
- Understanding of heritage obligations under the agreements with Traditional Owner groups.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to build and maintain a positive work environment
