Patent Engineer

Work Location: Perth

Roster: Monday to Friday

Joining our growing FFI Intellectual Property Team consisting of registered patent and trademark attorneys, FFI is recruiting for a Patent Engineer.

The role will leverage your engineering or science background and passion for IP, particularly patents.

This position will best suit individuals who can follow directions and adapt to change within a fast-paced work environment.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Summarise descriptions of technical devices and processes relating to the energy sector to facilitate patent analysis.
  • Analyse third party patents to support freedom to operate and infringement clearance opinions, and merger and acquisition opportunities.
  • Support IP audits of R&D projects
  • Support inventors in preparing invention disclosures
  • Support patent counsel to prepare and prosecute patent applications through inventor input coordination when required

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Degree within Mechanical/electrical/mechatronics engineer,  Physics
  • Studying or completed Master of Industrial Property or equivalent highly desirable
  • Experience in reading and analysing patents
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
