Newcrest is seeking a Permit Technician to join the Ore Treatment department at our Cadia Valley Operations.

Reporting to the Permit Supervisor, the successful candidate will be accountable for the facilitation, management, and auditing of the day-to-day deployment of the isolation system in the department.

Who we’re looking for

The successful candidate will possess previous experience in process plant operations which have included crushing, grinding and flotation as a minimum. Exposure to gravity recovery and dewatering operations is considered advantageous. Your strong focus on safety, teamwork, problem solving skills, mechanical aptitude and strong work ethic will ensure your success in the role.

Key responsibilities of the role include

  • Ensuring documentation is up to date and relevant for training and execution of the isolations within the plant.
  • Development of permits for unplanned breakdowns and preparations for emergent work over the weekend.
  • Raising work notifications for plant and equipment that needs rectification, particularly isolation related issues.
  • Verifying isolations in the field to reduce the workload on the technicians from other areas witnessing as per the isolation standard.
  • Completing routine inspections of isolation hardware to ensure it is in place, complete and fit for purpose.
  • Contributing to design reviews and HAZOPs of new plant and equipment to ensure that they are designed appropriately with isolations in mind.
  • Escalating isolation issues to supervisory team, including opportunities for improvement in the process or in the plant.
  • Participate in shift change handover meetings to highlight any risks or strategies required to offset risk, specifically in the isolation process.
  • Complete shutdown preparations for isolations to ensure equipment and processes are available and executed as required. This also includes assisting with planned shutdown isolations.
  • Assist with the development of the isolations for planned and unplanned plant and equipment shutdowns.
  • Audit the isolations in the field to ensure compliance. Ensuring all safety incidents and hazards are correctly documented and reported to the Production Shift Supervisor and Permit and Reline Supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance to daily plan, shutdown plans, and operating parameters set by relevant technical staff.
  • Ensure the relationships between the various interested parties in the permit system are well managed and seamless, most importantly interfacing with the fixed plant maintenance team.

Essential

  • Proficient computer skills – Microsoft Word, Project, Excel, Outlook
  • Knowledge of processing plant environment/process
  • Experience in placing and creating isolation permits

 Desirable

  • Experience with Permit to Work
