Physical Trading Manager

Location:  Brisbane, QLD

Roster:  Monday to Friday

Reporting to the Power Portfolio Manager, the Physical Trading Manager is responsible for compliantly optimising the dispatch of FFI’s assets into the National Electricity Market (NEM) on a real-time basis. The role is responsible for developing, articulating and executing physical trading strategies for FFI’s assets through the preparation and submission of dispatch bids, dispatch offers, and market ancillary service offers in accordance with the National Electricity Rules (NER) and internal policies and procedures. The role will work closely with other members of the Power Portfolio team and FFI’s operational sites to maximise returns in the dynamic NEM.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing a compliance management framework for FFI’s physical trading activities in the NEM, ensuring it remains up to date and provides the necessary positive assurance
  • Defining the necessary data, systems and business processes to support the real-time optimisation of FFI’s assets operating in the NEM and leading their implementation
  • Building, maintaining and managing a high performing team to execute FFI’s physical market strategy
  • Developing and executing physical trading strategies to optimise financial outcomes and manage market risk
  • Working collaboratively with the asset operations and marketing teams to co-ordinate production and optimise financial performance

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • 5+ years of experience in trading in energy markets.
  • Experience with Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM) is mandatory
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with energy market compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience of developing and implementing trading strategies to optimise financial performance, cognizant of asset operational planning and co-ordination.
  • Experience in managing a 24-hour roster is desirable.
  • Experience in implementing or upgrading energy trading software is desirable.
