Piping Design Engineer

Work Location: Perth

Roster: Monday to Friday

Reporting to the Products and Prototyping Manager, the Piping Design Engineer is responsible for the piping engineering, technical design, sourcing and implementation providing technical assurance, risk assessments and supporting progress through various phases of project development.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Piping engineering role, providing piping design and engineering activities during concept development, feasibility, detailed design, execution, commissioning, and start-up phases
  • Preparing piping drawings and layouts, requisitions, and specifications for both internal and external sourcing
  • Liaise with engineers on respective discipline engineering requirements and interface issues relating to rotating equipment, static equipment, piping, materials, and tanks
  • Assist where require defining, size and select equipment such as pumps, heat exchangers, and process flow instruments
  • Prepare scope documents and participate in the review of contract tenders
  • Assure technical oversight of Engineering Contractor activities
  • Ensure effective application of piping engineering meets the basis of design requirements of the project
  • Communicate and interface effectively with other disciplines within the team and across the business unit as well as engineering specialist providers and vendors as required
  • Participate in specific detail design reviews and evaluations including technical safety reviews of design, HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, QRA, risk analysis
  • Contribute to building a frugal cost-conscious attitude throughout the project team
  • Achieve and maintain effective communication with the project delivery team, and other internal and external stakeholders at all times
  • Carry out additional tasks as may be required from time to time by the Engineering Manager

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Bachelor’s degree of Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent study
  • 5+ years’ experience designing and implementing piping systems in a project delivery team
  • Experience in overseeing EPC design activities or discrete contractor packages
  • Experience in piping engineering, small bore gas tubing and medium-pressure connection systems
  • Experience in layout development, 3D piping modelling, preparation of specifications and datasheets for piping components according to the relevant country specific standards
  • Deliverable focused self-starter capable of working independently to deliver project targets
  • Knowledge of Australian and international codes, standards and industry specifications
  • Effective interpersonal and communications skills
  • Ability to problem-solve effectively
  • Strong analytical, literacy and numerical skills
