Our Deflector Mine Planning Team has an opening for self-motivation Planning Engineer.

Deflector Operation, located 160km east of Geraldton, consists of two independent, high-grade, narrow vein gold/copper mines, Deflector and Deflector South West.Two new mining areas, Spanish Galleon and Contact, are currently being developed from Deflector South West in order maintain the current production profile (~40Kt ore/month) over the next 4 years.

Reporting to the Planning Superintendent, the Planning Engineer is responsible for understanding, reviewing, and adhering to standard mine planning processes and systems related to mine development, production, and infrastructure planning. The role ensures that mining operations are conducted safely, efficiently, consistently, and profitably, while maintaining compliance with operational and business objectives. Working collaboratively with key stakeholders, the Planning Engineer develops and delivers detailed mine and infrastructure designs, plans, and schedules that support the achievement of short, medium, and long-term targets established by the Underground Mine Manager.

This position will be offered on either an 8:6 or 8:6, 8:6, 15:13 roster FIFO from Perth.

Key responsibilities of this role will include: 

  • Maintain overall site statutory compliance with the WH&S Act 2020, and WH&S (General) Regulations 2022, and WH&S (Mines) Regulations to any appointed statutory position/s.
  • Creates, updates and maintains plans and schedules, including the working CAD files, and physical and electronic storage of any finalised plans as per procedures.
  • Produce weekly, monthly, quarterly schedules, annual budgets, scenarios and reserve estimations in line with procedures, company requirements and instruction from the Planning Superintendent and Underground Manager.
  • Ensure the successful functioning of the ventilation and infrastructure systems (power, water, vent, compressed air, comms, drainage) of the mine and associated surface areas, through appropriate planning.
  • Assist the Production department or any other workgroups as required by the Underground Manager.

About You

  • Bachelor of Mining Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Proven experience in underground hard rock mining, with strong expertise in production engineering, drill and blast operations, and mine ventilation.
  • Extensive underground operational exposure, with experience in narrow vein stoping highly regarded. 
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the WA Work Health & Safety Act (2020) and Work Health & Safety (Mines) Regulations (2022).
  • Proficient use and application of MS Office suite, and relevant mining software including but not limited to Deswik Suite and VentSim.
  • WA First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate (or ability to obtain – preferred, but not essential)
  • Hold a current WA Driver’s License (manual C Class).
