About the Role
As a Plant Metallurgist at BHP Prominent Hill you will be partnering with Operations, Functional and other technical team members to drive value through providing day to day technical support for the ongoing optimisation of the plant, metallurgical accounting and performance and identification and management of improvement initiatives
This role is based at Prominent Hill on a 8 days on / 6 days off roster basis, FIFO from Adelaide.
In this role you will:
- Demonstrate personal commitment to safety and comply with all safety standards and procedures.
- Input to and accountability of day-to-day metallurgical performance, which includes monitoring plant operations, troubleshooting and implementing any corrective actions as necessary.
- Provide technical support to the process plant team to facilitate the achievement of site targets.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve plant performance, efficiency and recovery.
- Develop and maintain procedures and processes to support metallurgy troubleshooting.
- Manage concentrate QAQC, parcel requirements and site concentrate stocks, to meet customer specifications and timelines.
- Maintain key metallurgical instruments, including OSA and PSI, to enable continuous monitoring of plant performance.
- Coordinate and conduct metallurgy surveys, test work, data analysis and reporting.
- Accurate and timely metallurgical accounting and reporting, including daily, weekly and monthly production reports.
- Provide metallurgical inputs into budgets and forecasts.
- Coordinate reagent selection and stock management with Supply and Contracts Departments.
About You
- Degree qualified in Metallurgy, Chemical or Process Engineering
- Background in the minerals processing industry as a Metallurgist
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of comminution, flotation and dewatering circuits.
- Proven ability to work independently, and as part of a highly effective team, to apply initiatives and develop solutions and recommendations for the project / operation.
- Proven ability to interpret, analyse and make improvements with focus on process optimisation.
- Proven understanding of diagnostic and metallurgical test work.
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, coupled with excellent attention to detail.
- Strongly developed interpersonal skills with a strong ability to build productive relationships.
- Highly developed problem solving, analytical, technical, and planning skills.
- Demonstrated experience in fostering strong safety culture based on open and transparent communication with all stakeholders.
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft suite, in particular Excel including PI (or Historian equivalent) and understanding of complex spread sheets.
