About the role
We are looking for a Platform Technical Lead to motivate and inspire our diverse Data Lake development team. Your responsibilities for product and feature delivery will allow you to be an influencer in the enablement of the Rio Tinto DataOps portfolio and a key collaborator for enterprise platform data architecture and data engineering practices.

Reporting to the Manager - Data Integration and working in a collaborative, exciting environment within the Rio Tinto DataOps ecosystem, you will:
- Investigate, design, and implement Big Data computing solutions that are scalable, secure, and efficient.
- Provide technical direction to the team and product roadmaps, ensuring platform solutions align with business goals and meet technical and security standards
- Continuously improve the cloud platform, keeping up to date with new technologies and best practices. Identify, innovate, and drive development initiatives to advance integrated platform capability in Rio Tinto
- Lead, motivate, and manage the cloud platform team, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including technical teams, business teams, and senior management.
- In collaboration with the Manger Data Integration, Define, prioritise, and communicate the product backlog to the development team
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to safety and wellbeing for yourself and your team
- Have a deep understanding of big data current and emerging technologies, e.g. Databricks, data warehousing, Azure Synapse and Data Factory Spark, AWS Athena and EMR
- Strong understanding of SQL technologies and big data architecture and be able to design scalable and efficient big data solutions.
- Experience in designing and implementing big data architectures, including data pipelines, data storage, and processing solutions
- Experience with data management and be able to ensure data quality and accuracy.
- Leadership skills and the ability to motivate, coach and guide the development team to achieve successful and valuable outcomes
- Strong communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to identify and resolve complex technical problems.
- Experience in scripting and automation (e.g. Python, SQL, C#)
- Professionally certified in Azure and/or AWS
It will be beneficial if you have the following:
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies, and experienced in Agile product delivery
- Knowledge of software development life cycle (SDLC)
- Knowledge of REST API design and security principles and experience with implementing security measures such as authentication and authorization.
- A solid understanding of data analytics and be able to design and implement data analytics solutions.
- Experience with project management and be able to lead cross-functional teams.
