We are looking for a Plumber to be part of a team that is responsible for operating and maintaining the infrastructure to support the delivery of potable water, wastewater treatment, tailings and process water supply infrastructure for the Weipa Township and Northern Mining Operations.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Tailings and Water and working in, a challenging and exciting environment within the Tailings and Water team, you will be required to:

• Service and maintain the water and wastewater supply and water treatment infrastructure for the Weipa mining and Weipa town Operations
• Monitoring and interpreting the data on SCADA systems
• Undertaking sampling and testing of assets to ensure optimal operation of plants
• Conduct all tasks in a safe and reliable manner 
• Operating and maintaining the process Supply infrastructure at the Weipa operations
• Operating and maintaining potable water supply and wastewater treatment infrastructure
• Monitoring and interpreting data associated with Tailings and Water dam management
• Operating and maintaining Instrumentation associated with water and wastewater treatment

 What you’ll bring

• A relevant trade qualification, such as Plumber or Water Fitter
• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
• Poly welding knowledge and experience
• Experience from either a Mining or Heavy Industrial environment
• Demonstrated experience in water and wastewater treatment and water supply distribution
• Ability to work in dynamic team environment
• Ability to work unsupervised
• Intermediate proficiency in MS Office
• Ability to interpret data on SCADA systems

Where you will be working

Our Weipa Operations includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, ship loaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals. Located on the Western Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, each year the operation produces more than 35 million tonnes of bauxite.

Our operations are supported by a 1,900-strong workforce—including 26 per cent who are women and 25 per cent Indigenous employees. Activities include mine operations, maintenance, asset management, ports, cultural heritage management, and processing facility management.

The development of our new mine, Amrun, which was completed in 2018, will extend the life of our Weipa bauxite operations by decades to come and significantly build on our 55-year history on the Western Cape.
