Port Controller

Work Location: Perth. Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Sportsman - 5D:5R:4N:5R:2D:3N:4R or 4D:4N:8R

Reporting to the Port Control Supervisor, the Port Controller will be responsible for the control of all train dumping, ship loading and stock piling activities in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Port Operations procedures.

 Key accountabilities will include: 

  • Inload Operations - constantly be aware of train unloading times and act accordingly to optimize train unload rates
  • Outload Operations - monitor reclaimer rates and flag any throughput constraints and issues
  • Liaise with Port Operations and Maintenance in regard to status of equipment isolations
  • Foresee potential production issues and escalate to relevant parties
  • Identify fault and process losses for maximising production and minimising downtime

 Qualifications and Skills required: 

  • Understanding and knowledge of all the equipment and process involved in operating Port fixed plant such as train unloader operations, conveyor movements, balance machines operations and limitations and stockyard management
  • Understanding and experience of SCADA Operations
  • Demonstrated ability to schedule and prioritise multiple activities
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to convey ideas persuasively both verbally and in writing and report writing skills
  • Highly developed organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise, organise and complete work within set timeframes
  • Effective level of literacy, numeracy and computer skills
  • Fixed Plant and Train Load Out control experience desirable
