About the Role
Reporting to Vice President Independent Review and working within a highly professional team, you will provide leadership and independent review on all major investments (US$100m+) as part of the Investment Management Global System (IMGS), where you will ensure the value of key investment decisions are clear and delivery against investment targets are understood.
As the Practice Lead for Independent Review Office, you will be accountable for:
- Undertaking an independent, fit-for-purpose assessment of major investments to determine whether the business case and the risk-return profile are objectively represented in approval documentation, the objectives of the IMGS phase requirements have been met, material risks and issues which might impact the investment are understood and adequately managed and the investment is ready to proceed to the next phase.
- Ensuring the preparation, execution and reporting for any Independent Peer Review (IPR) or Post Investment Review (PIR) is completed in accordance with the IMGS and Independent Review Process Standard.
- Acting on behalf of the Group Investment Review Committee (GIRC), maintaining the independence of the IPR, PIR, or EPR (Execution Peer Review) team from the investment team / business to the extent possible.
- Ensuring lessons learned from prior investments are adequately considered and featured as part of the terms of reference for investment reviews.
- Maintaining a wide network of impact, integrating functions, operations and regions to deliver high quality IPRs, PIRs and EPR’s to the Group Investment Committee and the Board.
- Providing expert evaluation advice and best practice for transactions and projects to drive consistent management of decision risks/issues at the BHP level.
- Ongoing feedback and learnings to continually improve the investment decision making process and IMGS.
- Proactively communicate with the project team, Business, Investment Office, the GIRC and any other key contacts.
- Understanding and verifying risks of an investment.
- Applying intelligence on industry trends and market dynamics to drive enhanced decision making and planning.
- Identifying, engaging and managing a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Planning and tracking the delivery of and manage independent investment reviews to drive the achievement of investment outcomes.
- Conducting presentations and facilitating workshops using storytelling to connect, influence and engage the audience.
- Prioritising work effort and resources accordingly.
In this role you will be based in one of our Australian CBD offices.
About You
You will have a breadth of experience working in large scale projects or operations that spans across various commodities and countries, as well as having good exposure to major investment reviews. It is crucial that you understand value drivers and material risks associated with the successful delivery and value creation of an investment.
As a strategic thinker, you will be able to objectively review a range of scenarios and factors and constructively challenge business decisions to ensure the right outcomes will be delivered. Through data, you will be able to present a compelling story to our Executive Leadership team and are able to think on your feet to address investment questions.
You are confident in building and maintaining relationships with a range of internal stakeholders, where you will exercise your influencing and negotiating skills to achieve outcomes. Energetic and results-orientated, you work well under pressure bringing attention to detail and an ability to meet multiple and interdependent deadlines. Your leadership abilities will be a key strength as you are able to bring teams together quickly, through setting direction, providing clear communication and coaching.
A tertiary qualification is required (e.g. Engineering, Science).
