About the Role
We are looking for a driven, operationally focused safety leader to join our Safety Area of Expertise (AoE) team as Practice Lead – Safety.
This is a great opportunity to showcase your partnership building skills and your ability to lead strategic improvements across all the Rio Tinto product groups. You will be a key player in building the Safety culture in a sustainable way across your region by bringing best practice to the business and helping the business to move forward on its safety journey.
Reporting to the Head of Safety AoE, you will be responsible for:
Leading and coaching a team of highly capable professionals to drive our strategic initiatives e.g., safety maturity model, fatality elimination program (CRM), improving investigation quality, and effectively sharing and learning from these events
Developing talent and capability within your team and across the Safety Function
Translating our Group Strategy and objectives into an implementation plan to deliver results
Collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders, both internal and external, in the deployment of our global Safety strategy by providing guidance, governance and implementing leading practice through continuous learning
Supporting assets in their journey to improve their safety culture through strategic leadership of the Safety Maturity Model
Designing and leading impactful and engaging assurance activities
Providing high quality safety support on. strategic initiatives and technical advice to our operational teams
Supporting development and improvement of our Safety Standards so that they are simple and focused on control of our critical risks
Please be aware that due to the nature of this role and it sitting within a global team, there will be some element of travel required.
What you’ll bring
A University degree in Health, Safety, Engineering, or a related field
A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a role with safety responsibilities
A minimum of 5 years’ demonstrated leadership experience
Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety Systems; standards and key risk management and assurance processes
Ability to translate business requirements into practical application in an operational environment
Strong communication, problem solving and analysis skills
Demonstrated ability to engage a broad range of stakeholders in various contexts and from different background
Experience in mining or similar heavy industry would be considered as an asset
