About the Role

Principal Accounting Policy – Perth / Brisbane / Adelaide  Be a significant contributor to the timely and accurate financial reporting of the world’s largest miner and one of Australia’s biggest companies and be a key member of a team that is often at the forefront of developments in global financial reporting and disclosure.

Reporting to the Head of Accounting Policy and Sustainability Controllership, this role is critical to ensuring that consistent accounting advice and methods are used for complex accounting matters across the BHP Group.

As the Principal Accounting Policy, you will be relied upon for providing in-depth accounting advice on intricate and challenging financial matters. In this role, you'll not only address technical accounting issues but also play a pivotal part in maintaining the integrity of the company’s financial reporting processes. You will be responsible for crafting, developing, and updating accounting policies in response to evolving regulations and business needs. You’ll be expected to collaborate closely with senior stakeholders across the company, including teams in Finance, Legal, and Sustainability, as well as external auditors and regulators. This position requires someone with a strong command of IFRS and the ability to translate complex accounting standards into actionable advice.

This is a 12-month fixed term opportunity based in ether of our Perth / Brisbane / Adelaide offices.

About You

We’re looking for a highly skilled accounting professional ready to take on a strategic role in shaping and guiding complex financial decisions, who thrives in environments that require deep technical knowledge, strong analytical skills, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving.  

  • 8-10+ years significant financial experience.
  • Experience of working in the accounting policy / technical team in a large accounting professional services firm, providing technical advice to both audit teams and external clients.
  • Superior communication, facilitation, influencing and interpersonal skills, essential to building constructive relationships and credibility with diverse stakeholders and cross functional teams
  • Bachelor of Commerce, Management, Finance or Accounting degree and professional accounting designation - both required.
  • CA / CPA qualified with experience within a large, complex and global organisation.
  • Strong understanding of IFRS and external reporting requirements.
