We are looking for a Principal Adviser Investment to join the team and support the continued development, evaluation, and implementation of Rio Tinto’s decarbonisation strategy and as part of that assessing and providing a recommended deployment pathway to deliver on our decarbonisation strategy. The Decarbonisation Office sits within the central Rio Tinto Energy & Climate team with the role reporting to the Manager Investment, Policy and Strategy.
Reporting to the Manager Investment, Policy and Strategy and working in a collaborative community as part of the Rio Tinto Energy & Climate team within the Decarbonisation Office, your responsibilities will include:
Developing a deep understanding of the pipeline of decarbonisation projects and use evaluation tools for portfolio prioritisation and shaping (e.g. MACC)
Work collaboratively with RTEC teams to support project investments whilst considering constraints imposed by the broader portfolio of opportunities
Provide recommendations on preferred prioritisation of projects and make investment recommendations to key decision makers
Provide qualitative and quantitative inputs to other functions within Rio Tinto such as Group Strategy, Investor Relations, Treasury
Develop internal and external presentations, papers and other materials related to decarbonisation investments, portfolio analysis and tracking and capital allocation
Provide Group executives and other senior leaders with the meaningful decarbonisation insights that they require for informed decision making, communications and advocacy
Shape and promote the decarbonisation narrative for Rio Tinto’s investment community
What you will bring
A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
A number of years relevant experience in corporate finance or a related field
Intellectually curious, high performing self starter
CA / CFA, MBA or equivalent professional qualifications or experience
Exceptional commercial skills for investment assessment including modelling skills
Proven track record providing clear and concise valuation analysis and recommendations
Deep understanding of financial markets, corporate finance and ideally decarbonisation and the energy transition
Confident ability to engage at ExCo level and above
High energy and outcome focused
Diplomatic ability to shape decisions, opinions, or outcomes
