About the role
We are seeking a Principal Adviser – Risk to join our Program Management Office (PMO) and play a pivotal role in strengthening risk capability across our large‑scale enterprise transformation within our Modern ERP program.
This role is about more than risk reporting — it’s about uplifting risk maturity, embedding discipline and ensuring risk informs decision‑making at every level of the program. You will work at the intersection of technology, operations and governance, helping the program understand what matters most, when it matters most.
If you are comfortable asking the difficult questions, influencing senior stakeholders and translating complex risk into clear, actionable insights, this role will give you real impact.

You will help shape how risk is defined, assessed and managed across a critical enterprise investment
You will influence GM‑level and executive decision‑making on high‑impact technology and operational risks
You will play a key role in ensuring the organisation is prepared for ERP go‑live in 2027, including contingency planning for complex risk scenarios
What you’ll be doing
Embed a practical, fit‑for‑purpose risk framework that strengthens risk maturity across a major enterprise program
Translate complex risk into clear, actionable insight that supports timely, informed decision‑making
Act as a trusted adviser in key forums, identifying emerging risks early and influencing the right conversations
Partner with our Centres of Excellence to ensure alignment with Rio Tinto risk standards and “what good looks like”
Ensure risks are clearly articulated, owned and reported through our tool Archer, with strong documentation discipline
Support leaders through high‑impact risk scenarios, including ERP go‑live readiness and contingency planning
Work closely with delivery partners, including our System Integrator, to manage build, migration and delivery risks
Build strong relationships across technology, GPOs (Global Process Owners), and functional teams to embed consistent risk practices

You’ll join the Modern ERP Program — a multi‑disciplinary team bringing together technology, process, data and change specialists to reshape how work happens across Rio Tinto. We’re modernising a 20‑year‑old ERP system and redesigning core business processes to improve safety, efficiency and ignite innovation.
This work supports our people across global operations to spend less time on transactional tasks and more time on work that really matters.
