We are looking for a Principal Advisor Business Analysis, who will be a part of the Copper Business Analysis team which is a dynamic, focused advisory function and key contributor to the strategic direction of Rio Tinto. Our highly capable and independent analytical professionals provide insightful and timely commercial advice and analytical support to facilitate well-informed decisions and create value to the Copper portfolio. We provide important insights and challenges; investment appraisal including Investment Committee submissions; operating plan & business strategy
The role primarily exists to identify the value improvement opportunities through rigorous analysis of the business, market, and investment decision opportunities to ensure informed corporate decision making across Rio Tinto Copper. The key focus would be to support advancement and development our flagship Greenfields Winu Copper mine in Western Australia, and business development opportunities in the APAC region.We are an open, connected global team that includes some of the industry’s best and brightest minds. Reporting to the Manager – Business Analysis and working in a collaborative, challenging, and exciting environment, you will be:
- Assessing, valuing, and influencing major investment proposals, including preparing proposals for the Investment Committee and Board
- Engaging with the business to assess the financial viability of projects and programmes through appropriate evaluation, using financial modelling identify key drivers for optimising project value
- Defining assumptions for the quantification and analysis of investments, acquisitions or divestitures
- Participates in the development of long-range financial forecasts and related budgets, considering alternative scenarios and economic prospects as appropriate
- Reviewing and providing recommendations on capital expenditure applications, contracts, major operating cost decisions and post investment reviews
- Participating in Due Diligence reviews and early business development valuation activities
- Providing commercial and analytical support to the operations leadership team
- Undertake project work designed to identify opportunities for continuous improvement
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- A bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Economics or Engineering is essential (An MBA or other relevant post graduate qualification is highly desirable)
- Extensive experience in commercial and operational roles, with previous experience in the mining and resource industries highly desirable
- Demonstrated ability to work in a global business across organisational and geographical interfaces
- Outstanding financial evaluation and modelling expertise, including high level competence with MS Excel
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and effective communication skills
