About the role
We are looking for an experienced Principal Advisor – Business Improvement to join our Research, Development and Studies (RDS) team in Perth. In this role, you will lead both strategic and tactical initiatives that drive improvement and create long-term value for the Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) Development portfolio and broader business.
Reporting to the Manager – Development, you will:
Support delivery of RDS strategic priorities and management of the forward Studies pipeline, including project prioritisation
Be responsible for scoping and coordinating a program of fit-for-purpose improvement and value management initiatives that are aligned with our business context and strategic goals – this will include ensuring rigorous governance and quality assurance standards are achieved to sustain outcomes
Engage with key stakeholders across functions and play a critical role in guiding change, enabling new ways of working, building capability and deploying the Rio Tinto Safe Production System (RTSPS) within RDS
Provide expert advice, leveraging lessons learned to influence future improvements and drive performance across the Development portfolio
What you’ll bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will:
Be capable of resolving complex problems and offering new perspectives using existing solutions
Have experience in project and/or business development
Be able to coach, mentor, and build capability within the broader RDS team
Be skilled in managing change effectively throughout improvement initiatives
Communicate clearly, actively listen, and respond with understanding and respect
Be proficient in facilitating sessions to deliver results through others, gain consensus, and resolve conflicts
Be able to identify, analyse, and consider the broader context to develop practical solutions
Understand and apply effective planning, coordination, and project control methods

Where you’ll be working
You and your team will be Perth-based with opportunity to work flexibly from home combined with time in our Central Park offices. There will be the opportunity for some Pilbara site travel from time to time, however this will be done on an ad-hoc basis.
