We are looking for a Principal Advisor Capital Projects to lead the Strategy team within the Contracts and Procurement function supporting Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Sustaining Capital division. This team is responsible for developing and implementing sound commercial category strategies that enable the safe and reliable delivery of brownfields projects while deriving value.

This is a great opportunity for an effective leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has strong commercial acumen. The successful candidate will have demonstratable experience in delivering and implementing multiple category strategies, including influencing multiple stakeholders through change periods.

Reporting to the Business Partner, Sourcing and Strategy, Sustaining Capital and working in a challenging and exciting environment withing the Global Procurement team, you will demonstrate:

  • Leadership skills to develop and mentor an engaged team of Strategy Superintendents and Specialists and embed our people at the heart and relay race culture initiatives;
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing holistic category strategies within brownfields project environments, including a robust approach to risk and change management;
  • Ability to articulate and live Rio Tinto’s values of Care, Courage and Curiosity;
  • A curious mindset, building an integrated team, supporting collaboration within Rio Tinto Procurement and RTIO Sustaining Capital;
  • A proactive approach in seeking opportunities to leverage and align on commercial strategies across Rio Tinto Procurement;
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills to drive the ongoing improvement of sustaining capital processes and maturity; and
  • Well-developed negotiation skills with demonstratable strategic thinking to resolving complex negotiations.

  • A tertiary degree in business, law or commercial discipline is highly desirable; and
  • A background in project contracts and procurement is highly desirable.
