We have an opportunity in the Asia Pacific and an opportunity in the EMEA regions.

The Rio Tinto Global Closure Group manages and endeavours to minimise Rio Tinto’s closure liabilities in the long-term and to find better ways to operate our mines, infrastructure, and plants post-mining activities. Our aim is to reduce the physical burden of closure but also to consider post-closure alternative economic activities much earlier in the operating life of an asset.

This is an exciting opportunity to embrace a regenerative approach, create self-sustaining post-production ecosystems through landscape restoration and repurposing solutions into execution planning for operational and legacy assets and make an impact by changing the view of mining in society and bringing economic and social value.

  • Maintain and improve regulatory tracking tools.

Commercial, Business Development and Transactional support

  • Provide support to the development and integration of closure planning strategies with the asset owners focussed on reducing liabilities.
  • Manage the process for identifying opportunities, completing due diligence, provide recommendations to the Senior Leadership group at Rio Tinto.
  • Contribute to investment committee recommendations and approval processes.
  • Drive negotiation strategies, transaction structuring and execution of agreements and other transaction-related legal documentation.
  • Support the management and enhancement of relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build Closure best practices framework.

What you’ll bring

To be successful in this role, you will bring a commitment to the safety of yourself and your team. Teamwork is key for this global team, whilst having the ability to work autonomously, bring your entrepreneurial mindset and strong attention to detail.

Your academic qualification of either Mining Engineering, Finance or Environment will be beneficial to this role.

It is important for you to bring your valued experience from the Natural Resources or Industrials sectors as well as negotiating and executing transactions.

Your success in this role will be accentuated through your critical thinking to assess commercial opportunities, as well as your interpersonal skills, strong team ethic and collaborative working style.

You will benefit through your passion for ESG trends and challenges, sustainable economic diversification and nature-based solutions.

French language skills are desirable for the role supporting the EMEA regions, however not mandatory.
