About the role
Our approach to Communities and Social Performance (CSP) is to build strong partnerships based on mutual trust and respect. This includes meaningful engagement with host communities managing social, economic, environmental, cultural, and human rights impacts throughout the life cycle of our assets and delivering value to local communities and society more broadly.
Our Communities and Social Performance Area of Expertise (AoE) is Rio Tinto’s central technical CSP function. It provides support to the business to build respectful and trusted relationships with host communities and deliver sustainable improvements in social and economic outcomes. The CSP AoE works closely with CSP practitioners and leaders, in addition to related functions across the business to build technical capability, support social performance delivery, monitor and respond to emerging trends, and provide assurance and risk management. The CSP AoE works closely with HSES to maintain Rio Tinto’s management systems, standards and reporting processes.
We are looking for a Principal Advisor, CSP Reporting to join the assurance, risk, and governance stream within the AoE. The team oversees and ensures robust CSP assurance practice, well understood CSP risks and controls, and fit-for-purpose systems, standards and reporting.

Reporting to the Manager CSP Assurance, Risk and Governance, you will:
- Manage group level social performance reporting and data management including; data collection, monitoring, trend analysis, planning and reporting
- Be responsible for data preparation for key reports including internal reporting to executive leaders
- Familiarity with sustainability reporting standards like GRI and understanding of forward looking trends
- Integrate core monitoring and control processes, including progress reporting, , resource requirements and budget management
- Develop the communication materials to support progress updates regarding CSP reporting and linked data collection improvement initiatives
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities (processes & systems) including design and development of data visualisation tools
- Lead a small team as required
What you’ll bring
- Extensive relevant experience in CSP, ESG reporting or related discipline
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- An understanding of Communities and social performance technical discipline and the mining industry
- Experience working in the mining & resources or similar industry
- Demonstrated strong project management skills with an attention to detail
- Compliance, risk management and stakeholder engagement skills
- The ability to collaborate, develop, engage and bring out the best outcome within a team environment
- A desire to see improvements in social performance outcomes and meet requirements now and into the future
- Experience in sustainability (ESG) reporting and data analytics is highly desirable
