We are looking for a Principal Advisor, Control Systems and Automation to lead a team of 7 technical professionals managing Control Systems, Automation and Functional Safety projects from initiation through to execution.

Reporting to the Manager - Power & Automation Projects and working in collaborative, supportive environment within Sustaining Capital you will:

  • Oversee the scope for Order of Magnitude, Pre-Feasibility, Feasibility, and Implementation stages of control systems, automation and functional safety projects
  • Provide guidance and technical leadership on control systems, automation, functional safety, standards, design, installation and commissioning related matters on multi-discipline capital projects
  • Provide the subject matter expertise for the complexities of executing control systems and automation projects in brownfield environments
  • Provide project governance, and ensures Sus Cap Project Management Framework is applied
  • Review and assesses project timelines and cost, report on project resourcing to the Manager to ensure project delivery in a timely manner
  • Implements, refines and improves project delivery methods and standards
  • Ensure compliance with standardised project processes, systems and tools across projects
  • Manage project vendors including performance against contract deliverables
  • Ensure effective stakeholder engagement across projects
  • Monitor, manage and report all relevant project performance indicators to meet business requirements
  • Maintain relationships with key stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration, participation and improvement

What you’ll bring 

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team 
  • Deep knowledge and experience across Control Systems & Automation, and Project Management
  • Experience from an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) project environment is desirable
  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
  • RPEQ is desirable
  • TUV Machine Functional Safety certification (or similar) is highly desirable
  • Ability to lead a team and influence key stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills to build credibility and support collaboration
  • Ability to work in a global, multi-cultural organisation
