Rio Tinto’s Copper Group are seeking a Principal Advisor to join our Copper Growth and Development team. Based in Brisbane Australia, you will support the Copper Group’s future growth projects with an initial focus on our Oyu Tolgoi project in Mongolia.

Reporting to the General Manager - Growth and Development you will join a small, diverse team, with an inclusive culture. Exposure across a global stakeholder group will further provide you with a platform to grow your career within Rio Tinto. You will:
- Provide insights and market knowledge to help execute a multi-year strategy to support growth by improving OT and Rio Tinto’s reputation with the Mongolian public, special publics, key project stakeholders and project partners.
- Work with a range of international and domestic agency partners in supporting the delivery of the above strategy including through research, message and narrative development, campaigns and advertising. Lead selected agency relationships, including ongoing monitoring, quality assurance and rigorous assessment of performance.
- Support the development and delivery of Mongolia country strategy and other key programmes, strategies and plans through effective strategic thinking and project management.
- Analyze and evaluate key processes and procedures, relationships and approaches to determine effectiveness of current team and business activity.
- Undertake a wide range of research and analysis to understand emerging issues, trends and intelligence to influence the execution of the above strategy and ensure its effectiveness is constantly reviewed and improved.
- Support the development of cross-disciplinary team structures to develop and execute content in support of business activity, utilizing internal Rio Tinto and OT channels.
- Provide honest, high quality advice and insights to senior leaders, draft strategic business and strategy improvement advice for consideration by senior leaders.
- Deputize for line leader when necessary, including representing the team at senior leadership meetings and with key stakeholders
What you’ll bring
Your exceptional written and verbal communication skills across English and Mongolian will see you excel in this role. Your ability to build trust, rapport, and manage diverse stakeholder groups is essential. Due to the dynamic nature of this role, you will be adaptable and hold strong organisational skills. You will have:
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Tertiary qualifications (Communications, Humanities, Business, Finance, Public Policy or other relevant field) or alternative demonstrated experience
- Masters qualifications (desirable, not essential)
- Fluency in Mongolian and English – written and spoken
- Demonstrated experience in mining, coupled with a thorough understanding of Mongolia and developing markets will be highly regarded
- Ability and experience interacting effectively with leaders at the highest level of an organisation
- Strong analytical skills including the ability to assess, define and measure the effectiveness of processes and policies to make recommendations

Where you’ll be working The role will be based in our Brisbane hub but will have a global responsibility, some travel will be expected where conditions allow.
