Principal Advisor Integrated Productivity

  • Accelerating the adoption of Integrated Productivity (integrated operations and industry 4.0) solutions across the Aluminium business, with a primary focus in the Pacific
  • Contributing to establish the Aluminium business of the future
  • Collaborating across multiple regions and driving change
  • Permanent role based in Brisbane

About the role

Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.

Over many years RTA has been pushing hard on its traditional productivity levers, such as incremental cost improvement, incremental volume creep and conventional continuous improvement & innovation - but this alone won’t deliver the returns needed moving forward.

To reach the next level of productivity improvement and establish the Aluminium business of the future, RTA needs to further leverage Integrated Operations and Industry 4.0 – collectively what is being referred to as “Integrated Productivity”.

In 2019, RTA developed its initial Integrated Productivity roadmap, with detailed roadmaps defined for each of the value streams across Aluminium – bauxite, alumina and aluminium processing. Over the past four years, significant progress has been made on implementing and evolving the roadmaps, with value delivery in line with original estimates.

A central RTA team continues to lead the overall approach, specifically:

  • Continuing to drive a common approach across RTA, as well as integration with the Rio Tinto Safe Production System (RTSPS)
  • Ensuring that, where practical, work is done only once across RTA (avoiding/minimising duplication across BUs)
  • Being a catalyst for collaboration, replication and integration across RTA
  • Accelerating critical initiatives where requested by the BUs
  • Providing a coordinated and consolidated focal point for engagement with other PGs, RT functions and beyond (external)

These efforts are driven by a small team of Principal Advisors; these Principal Advisors provide leadership, guidance and specialist expertise to accelerate the implementation of the roadmaps and the pipeline of initiatives. We are currently recruiting a Principal Advisor to be based in Brisbane. Reporting to the General Manager Performance Improvement Programmes, the responsibilities of the Principal Advisor Integrated Productivity include:

  • Managing relationships with senior leaders (typically GMs/Managers) across RTA, with a primary focus in RTA Pacific, to influence direction, roadmap definition and execution of the pipeline of projects
  • Designing and delivering key foundations and key enablers critical to the success of the RTA Integrated Productivity programme (integrated operations + industry 4.0)
  • Scoping of complex initiatives and setting up for successful delivery
  • Accelerating critical Integrated Productivity initiatives (‘pull’ mode from the BUs); providing support and direction to project stakeholders as required
  • Ensuring strong alignment and integration with the Rio Tinto Safe Production System (RTSPS)
  • Driving global replication and integration rituals across RTA
  • Collaborating across multiple regions, multiple PGs and multiple functions to facilitate cultural change

What you’ll bring

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • A bachelor and/or professional qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • 8+ years operational and/or business improvement experience, ideally with a strong understanding of RTA business processes
  • An understanding of leading trends in integrated operations and/or industry 4.0 and how to assess the impact for the business
  • Experience in developing integrated operations, Industry 4.0 or technology roadmaps
  •  A high level of coordination/project management skills
  • Experience in evaluating competing business requirements and priorities
  • Ability to perform under pressure and solve complex problems where precedent may not exist
  • Strong stakeholder influence and collaboration competencies
  • Experience working in a diverse, global team
  • High level of analytical thinking and strong financial analytical skills
