About the role

We are looking for a Principal Advisor Process Safety to provide expertise in supporting the assets to deliver objectives safely and reliably through operationalisation, implementation and embedding of process safety systems, process and initiatives. Playing a key role in the Processing Major Hazards team within the Processing Center of Excellence, you will build and maintain process safety standards across a networked technical organisation.

Reporting to the Chief Advisor Process Safety, you will:

  • Provide process safety expertise across the group to avoid events and keep our people safe.
  • Support the assets to materially improve their Process Safety Performance, Process Control & Production delivery reliability
  • Deliver tools, training, development opportunities, metrics and standards governance that help assure performance
  • Provide technical expertise to support improvements and resolution of technical issues
  • Facilitate or participate in working groups at group-level to develop and implement process safety practices
  • Advise the Group, Product Groups and Assets on next generation technology priorities
  • Focus on high risk and high value threats and opportunities at the Group level, work with Product Groups and assets to ensure that these Group level risks and addressed in their Process Safety and Productivity.
  • Network with external experts and suppliers to support improvements 

What you will need for this role

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in the fields of chemical, mechanical or electrical
  • 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in Process Safety
  • Strong operational experience in process safety on a major hazard site in a high hazard industry such as oil and gas, chemicals, refining, petrochemicals, pharmaceutics, mining and metals using a recognised process safety management framework or regulation (OSHA PSM, CCPS, Energy Institute, other)
  • Prior engineering experience with robust knowledge of good engineering practices, international codes and standards related to the safe design of facilities (API, NFPA, others)
  • Experience implementing process safety initiatives in projects
  • Leadership skills including ability to facilitate meetings and working groups
  • Ability to discuss and influence at all levels in a matrix and decentralised organisation
  • Problem solving Listening skills and ability to develop trusted relationship with our partners
  • Experience in process hazard analysis such as HAZID, HAZOP, Bow-Ties, ALARP
  • Able to influence strategy; translate strategy into practical and innovative solutions; and deliver improved productivity.

You will be part of the Center of Excellence in Processing, a hub created to support all the assets in achieving and sustaining process safety excellence. You will be expose to several mining and processing assets across the group.
