Join our Rio Tinto Development & Technology department as a Principal Advisor Projects and manage a unique program of work for matters based in Papua New Guinea. You will utilise dynamic and progressive thinking as part of our Capital & Closure Projects portfolio.

This opportunity will see you accountable for managing the design and implementation of project operational/closure readiness processes, practices, and tools. You will provide governance of project initiatives by identifying and evaluating options, challenging assumptions, mitigating risks, and delivering on opportunities through support planning and implementing preparatory activities. This is impactful work, required to deliver effective systems of work, competent people and reliable assets so as to enable the transition of facilities, plants and asset.

Reporting to the Project Director and working as part of a dynamic, collaborative team, you will:

  • Lead and manage the development, design and implementation of strategic options for the project and coordinate analysis.
  • Develop and implement the decision framework for the project.
  • For each of the option pathways identified, develop an implementation approach and assess opportunities to build capacity with third parties.
  • Support stakeholder identification, mapping and analysis.
  • Utilize business and commercial acumen work with Business Analysis for each of the key project options.
  • Support relevant option approvals through internal governance bodies.
  • Apply discipline governance and quality assurance across the project and promotes compliance with standardised processes, systems and tools.
  • Engage with internal and external experts to develop the strategic direction of the project.
  • Maintain relationships with key stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration, participation and improvement.

What you’ll bring

You will be passionate about delivering optimised solutions and have a natural curiosity. You will drive for results, have an appetite for constructive challenge and risk based creative thinking. To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Proven leadership experience with effective influencing and negotiation skills.
  • An ability to understand technical and stakeholder issues and solutions outside of your field of expertise.
  • Risk management, commercial awareness, business analysis & reporting, financial, and operational/business knowledge.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proven ability to drive strategic direction for major projects.
  • Strong experience and knowledge of program management requirements for international projects.
  • A tertiary qualification in Law, Business Analysis, Project Management, Processing, Geoscience, Environmental Science, or other relevant discipline.
