About the role

We are looking for a Principal Advisor – Simulation Technology to join our Data & Analytics team to help support the application of simulation technology across Rio Tinto operations.

Reporting to the Simulation Lead and working in a collaborative and exciting environment within the Rio Tinto Data & Analytics team, you will:

  • Work alongside internal simulation developers to guide platform development, maintenance, and provide end user support
  • Work in a client facing role
  • Execute projects to provide simulation solutions to Rio Tinto business units globally (scope, build, develop, analyze, and deploy)
  • Provide technical guidance to team members
  • Enhance the skills and capability across the Rio Tinto group through capability uplift programs

What you’ll bring

To be successful in this role you will be an excellent communicator with ability to engage and influence at all levels of the business. With outstanding organisation skills, you will be able to plan and manage your own time effectively and understand the importance of delivery to business deadlines.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Ideally you will have at least 10 years’ experience in discrete event simulation modelling
  • Strong consulting skills with an ability to focus on client requirements
  • Strong analytical and data manipulation skills
  • Exposure to supply chain operations (e.g., mine operations, processing plants, rail, and port)
  • Project management skills
  • Bachelor of Engineering/ Science degree or higher (other numerate degrees considered)
  • Demonstrated experience working within a team
  • Excellent presentation and writing skills, attention to detail, and an ability to problem solve
  • Knowledge of other operations research and optimization techniques is advantageous

Data and Analytics is focused on improving performance through smarter ways of working by driving an innovative and “disruptive” technology culture. By partnering with Rio Tinto product groups and functions, our team is developing innovative ideas to solve problems and enable better decisions through data & analytics. The role is based in our central park offices, in Perth.
