We are looking for a Principal Advisor Studies to be accountable for the safe and successful delivery of a multiple stream program of studies, including business analysis to achieve business case.

This is a great opportunity to lead the development of study scopes, estimates and plans to prepare and submit multiyear funding applications to gain project approvals to facilitate the success of the Rail Systems program.

Our rail network is the largest privately-owned and operated rail system in Australia, currently servicing 16 mines via a rail network of more than 1,700 kilometres. We have proudly introduced the world’s first automated heavy haul network with more than 90 per cent of all train kilometres being completed in autonomous mode, but our journey is only just beginning, and we have an opportunity for you to join as a key member of the rail systems team. 

Reporting to the Manager Engineering – Rail Systems and working in a challenging and exciting environment within Rail Engineering & Strategy, you will:

  • Lead and develop the studies program identifying and leading productivity and efficiency improvements initiatives related to the program activities 
  • Work autonomously across the Rail Division, improving capital plans and ensuring the business case for the Rail Systems program.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and technical support and direction to internal and external stakeholders
  • Provides professional expertise and support to the whole of Rail and project delivery teams personnel in the delivery of Rail System changes. 
  • Lead various personnel and delivery partners to ensure the program is delivered to agreed milestones, quality and content requirements  
  • Manage delegated budgets, including the planning, preparation and cost control 
  • Lead cost saving initiatives in volume/growth or business improvement

You’ll put your experience in producing significant business cases and reports with multiple inputs and the ability to manage large budgets along with a good understanding of financial modelling, to good use with opportunities to work on significant projects with real influence. 

  • Ability to understand strategic drivers for a study
  • Ability to engage and communicate clearly with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Good understanding of financial modelling and project management
  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering or Project Management
  • Experience in rail signals, systems and communications portfolio would be advantageous
