Position: Principal Analyst – Business Evaluation - Perth, WA
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Business Evaluation Lead, the Principal Analyst has a deep understanding of South32’s investment evaluation methodologies and works with cross-functional teams to assess opportunities (including Life of Operation Plans, capital projects, portfolio composition and commercial negotiations) to make recommendations to senior management. This role will primarily focus on maintaining a portfolio view of South32’s value and forecast financial statements that inform capital management and allocation processes.
Accountabilities
• An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
• Undertaking financial modelling of the consolidated suite of operations and investments identified in the annual Life of Operation Plan (LoOP).
• Presenting valuation and financial statement analysis to the Vice President Finance and CFO.
• Owning the corporate financial model that supports forecast consolidated financial metrics for Corporate capital management and allocation processes.
• Co-ordinating between teams in Planning, Projects, Commercial, Finance, Operations and Non-operated Joint Ventures to ensure consistency of assumptions and strategic direction.
• Leading the semi-annual Summary Model process that is completed for each Operation.
• Supporting the half-year and full-year fair value assesment with the Group’s auditor.
• Participating in Independent Peer Reviews and Post Implementation Reviews.
• Supporting the annual Strategy Day process with the Board.
• Supporting M&A activity.
About you
• 8+ years of combined operational, projects, corporate finance and/or techno-economic valuation experience.
• Prior M&A experience - preferred
• Prior experience in analysis and modelling of corporate financial statements
• Expert modelling skillls.
• Ability to hold and put forward independent views under sustained pressure.
• Results focused, delivering quality work products on time.
• Ability to deal with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong communication and relationship building skills.
• Excellent eye for detail coupled with pragmatic judgement as to if, and when, issues should be raised and escalated.
• Ability to quick assess business cases for strengths and weaknesses.
Qualifications
• Relevant degree (geology, engineering, science, commercial).
• Post-graduate financial qualifications (preferred).
