We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced technology portfolio manager to help lead the Rio Tinto digital transformation in asset management. The role is based in the Asset Management Centre of Excellence and will be partner across Aluminium, Copper, Minerals and Iron Ore, as well as our service and support functions spanning 35 countries around the world. 

Our Asset Management Centre of Excellence partners with the business to optimise the risk, performance, and cost of our assets. As the Principal - Asset Management Technology Portfolio, you will lead a team of senior advisors to reduce AM technology portfolio cost and complexity, enhance value delivery of Asset Management processes through technology innovation, and increase people capability and process / product adoption. You’ll utilise your outstanding ability to partner with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including enterprise and solution architects, business analysts, operational and maintenance leaders, finance advisors, and software vendors. 

With support from the Practice Lead, Asset Management Technology and Analysis, you will: 

  • Work with the Information Systems &Technology group to establish and maintain a complete product inventory of all Asset Management technologies utilised across Rio Tinto,
  • Work with the Information Systems &Technology and Finance groups to develop and support cost reporting to manage cost of ownership by product, 
  • Develop and maintain the Asset Management Technology Roadmap, in consultation with practice leads, product groups and functions, that serves to meet the business Safe Production System and Digital Strategy priorities, 
  • Ensure that the roadmap aligns with and informs the Rio Tinto Enterprise Architecture, optimises the value delivery of Asset Management technologies and provides agile product development and cost-effective life-cycle management, and
  • Support the Asset Management technology issue resolution team and facilitate product enhancement management, product evaluations, performance measurement and continuous improvement of all core Asset Management technologies. 

In additional, you will also contribute to continuous improvement of the business Asset Management Body of Knowledge, in collaboration with our practice leads and product group stakeholders. 

What you will bring

You are an experienced portfolio and project manager with experience designing, deploying and improving asset management technologies. You are excited by the challenge of working across a global business of this scale and complexity. You will have excellent stakeholder engagement skills and a solid understanding of available asset management technologies, while also being able to demonstrate strong performance in product life-cycle management and evaluation.

Previous experience working in a mining operation is not essential – we appreciate experience gained through other related industries including but not limited to defence, aviation and other resource sectors. A tertiary qualification in a related discipline will also be highly regarded but not mandatory for this role.

A flexible working arrangement is in place which combines work from home and time in the office with colleagues at our state-of-the-art business facilities located in either the Central Park Building in Perth CBD, or the Charlotte Street offices in Brisbane CBD. There is a requirement for site and interstate travel required from time-to-time.
