The Opportunity – Permanent, Full Time Position

The purpose of Principal Assurance is to add value through the delivery of the internal audit plan by leading audits across South32 operations and functions (e.g. safety and supply). In addition, this role will assist in business process reviews, risk assessments, developing deliverables and reporting outcomes to senior management and the Board, with a specific focus on the system of risk management.

Reporting to the Group Manager Assurance, key role accountabilities include:

  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development
  • Build trust and credibility with senior stakeholders for the successful delivery of internal audit outcomes that will support the improvement of risk management and effectiveness in South32
  • Be the “face of internal audit” with the operations and functions, working with stakeholders on audit planning, execution and outcomes
  • Actively contribute to the development of the annual internal audit plan through performing risk assessments, engaging with internal and external stakeholders and applying operational experience and knowledge
  • Implement the annual internal audit plan by executing assigned audits including:
    • Planning, scoping, and leading a team of internal resources, guest auditors and external specialists on internal audits
    • Review the suitability of internal control design with a specific focus on risks
    • Conduct audit testing of internal controls and identify reportable issues
    • Evaluate and provide reasonable assurance that risk management, control, and governance systems are functioning as intended
    • Provide the Board and senior management with timely, objective, factually accurate, practical, and professionally written internal audit reports that add value and provide stakeholders with the necessary transparency of information to priorities risk management activities
    • Review audit findings for inconsistencies and weaknesses in controls including analysis of existing practices

About You

You will be required to have the following:

  • Knowledge of contemporary assurance requirements and emerging practices
  • Experience in the resources industry
  • 7+ years of experience in assurance
  • General knowledge of risk management, audit principles and control requirements
  • Ability to build trust and respect with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to remain flexible and apply intuition when faced with ambiguity in providing advice to key stakeholders, senior management, and the Board
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and identify opportunities to improve operational practices
  • Well organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work autonomously and lead a team of internal and external resources to deliver  high-quality audits

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Risk Management, Internal Audit, Assurance, Business Management, Finance, Commerce
  • Professional accreditation or certification in Internal Auditing/Assurance preferred

Location

This role will be based at our office in the heart of the Perth CBD, with some travel required to domestic and international operations during the execution of the internal audit plan.
