About the Role
The Principal Automation Engineer provides oversight of project technology systems engineering. This roles requires in-depth knowledge of operational technology, and ideally autonomous haulage systems and sub-systems.
Working with the Specialist Solution Architect and OEM technology representatives the Principal Automation Engineer will ensure engineering designs comply with BHP and Technology Standards.
Highly motivated, with a can-do attitude and successful delivery record, the incumbent will operate effectively within a functional matrix organisational structure. A team player, Principal Automation Engineer will use their influencing and stakeholder engagement skills to actively participate in a high performing team.
This is a Perth based role with regular travel to site as required to meet project and safety objectives.
In this role you will:
- Contribute towards project strategies to deliver health, safety and business objectives.
- Shape implementation of project delivery plans, methodologies, systems and execution plans, including risk and quality management plans.
- Guide the development of technology work packs to ensure resulting designs are compliant with BHP standards and operational expectations.
- Implement positive communication processes to support project and operational outcomes.
- Maintain strong and transparent relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment of expectations for project outcomes.
- Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities are development and delivery of the technical components:
- Development systems engineering deliverables in accordance with BHP Technology Standards, Blueprints and Operational requirements.
- Contributing to the development and maintenance of technology related project management artefacts.
- Engaging and collaborating with technology stakeholders (internal and external) to drive project outcomes.
- Contributing to the development of project technology readiness strategy, design and safe delivery of Technology Readiness work packages (cost, schedule, scopes of work), including
- Foundation Technology - Wired network, wireless network, hosting, facilities and fibre).
- Autonomous Haulage Product (AHP) - Enabling Tech, End User Computing (EUC), AHP Applications, Integration & Reporting, AHP Monitoring, and Supporting Technology.
- Site Infrastructure, e.g. design and commissioning of GNSS base stations and on-board equipment.
- Adherence to BHP Management of Change and Technology Change practices.
- Support technology work pack Service Design and transition to operations.
- Delivery of design documentation to support the Operational Readiness and Transition to Operations of the AHS and supporting infrastructure.
About You
- Experience in delivering complex operational technology solutions, ideally in an autonomous haulage setting.
- Mentoring and coaching skills that support a high performing team built on a learning mind-set.
- Tertiary or industry qualification or experience in foundational technology (Wired network, wireless network, hosting) or production systems with an in depth understanding of how they fit within the greater OT environment.
