In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Green Fleet projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to power our mining fleet
FFI are currently looking for a Principal Battery Systems Engineer to undertake the design, integration and testing of high voltage systems, for a number of new and ongoing technology projects. Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, you will be expected to be involved in and lead the projects at any stage from concept development through to testing and integration within hybrid and electric vehicles.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Development of test strategies and methodologies
- Development of technology and engineering approaches for different cell / battery technologies and requirements
- Assistance with and delivery of industry/academic joint projects
- Assistance in preparation and planning of projects
- Assistance in proposal development
- Analysis and decomposition of customer requirements for battery or other HV system components
- Liaison with customers
- Building relationships with key technology suppliers/knowledge holders in industry and academia
- Preparation of engineering documentation and reports (e.g. DFMEA’s, test procedures, test reports etc.)
- Support of battery build and testing
- Support of off-site testing – UK and overseas based test facilities
- Liaising with battery build and electrical workshop personnel – building good working relationships
- Participating in project meetings – feeding back information to the Project Team with respect to timing/technical issues
- Participating in design reviews
- Participating in system safety reviews
- Presenting the company at conferences
Qualifications and skills required:
- A Degree in mechanical, automotive, electrical or aerospace engineering.
- Experience of mechanical design in either the automotive or the motorsport industry.
- Working knowledge of Siemens NX 11, TeamCentre or CATIA V5 would be an advantage.
- Good working knowledge of proprietary PC software e.g. MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
- Experience with HV Battery systems and sub system development
- Experience in chassis system design or packaging, such as body, suspension, steering or brakes
- Some knowledge of lightweight design and composite structures would be beneficial.
- Some knowledge of occupant packaging & vehicle certification/homologation would be beneficial.
- Some knowledge of electric vehicles and electrified powertrains.
- Demonstrate ability to manage your own workload and projects.
- Ability to maintain high standards of staff and department presentation, as appropriate for a facility visited by potential customers and other VIP’s.
