About the role

We are looking for a Principal Business Improvement to Lead the respective Operational Excellence - Business Improvement team at our Paraburdoo mining operation, providing improvement expertise to the operations to deliver business priorities, including the execution of best practices to enable RTSPS sustainability.The Operational Excellence team works across a diverse portfolio including Improvement Projects, Continuous Improvement, Change Management, Capital, Risk and the Management Operating System.
You’ll be a part of a friendly team, supported by your Manager to grow and achieve your own personal goals as well as the goals of the team. You will be located and working locally in Paraburdoo, giving you more time to spend on the things that are important to you and the people in your life.
Reporting to the Manager Operational Excellence, you will:
Actively monitor direct reports to ensure activities meet all health, safety and environmental requirements, and assist in risk mitigation
Lead the Business Improvement team, providing coaching and guidance
Support the delivery of annual and strategic planning for site
Manage the deployment and embedment of the RTSPS
Identify and lead improvement projects using project management and improvement methodologies, such as facilitating workshops with leaders
Provide expert technical direction, coaching and support to operational leaders on business improvement best practice and support the development of capability, mindsets and behaviours
Actively engage with operational leaders to identify bottlenecks and opportunities to increase operational effectiveness and establish a pipeline of future improvement
Develop strong interfaces and relationships across the site to ensure optimisation of improvements and efficiencies
Embed and champion continuous improvement processes and solutions across the site, bringing transparency, simplification, supportive leadership and continuous improvement culture to life
What you’ll bring
Leadership experience in continuous improvement where you have demonstrated improvement delivery and sustainability of projects
Previous Commercial experience in the Business Improvement lean six sigma space
Ability to communicate new ideas and influence others
Solid performance coaching capability and ability to develop and build credibility among peers
Strong teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills
A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
Commitment to Rio Tinto value drivers of Care, Courage and Curiosity
Current C Class driver’s license
Although not essential, you may also bring:
Engineering background, particularly Process or Reliability
Operational experience

Where you’ll be working
Located 80 kilometres southwest of Tom Price, Paraburdoo rests on the traditional lands of the Yinhawangka people. The town is surrounded by some of Western Australia’s most stunning landscapes and is renowned for its natural beauty, diverse wildlife, and close proximity to Karijini National Park.
Paraburdoo is a gateway to adventure and exploration, and the town is proud of its reputation as a safe, welcoming community and an ideal place for young families to live and thrive.
Paraburdoo offers a wide range of local amenities and leisure facilities, including a domestic airport, hospital, community centre, childcare centre, primary school, parks, and various sporting venues.
The Paraburdoo Sports, Fitness and Community Complex features state-of-the-art facilities such as an Olympic-size swimming pool, indoor basketball court, and a fully equipped gym. Recent upgrades have expanded the camp facilities to 762 rooms.
With the opening of the Western Range at Paraburdoo Operations, the site now has the capacity to produce up to 25 million tonnes of iron ore annually supporting the longevity of the Paraburdoo mining hub for up to 20 years.
